Freshers shows are an amazing opportunity to make some new friends and memories during your first term here by taking the stage by storm! And guess what? While the crew is made up of experienced Players members, auditions are only open to those who haven’t acted in Players before! So don’t worry if you’re new to showbiz cause everyone else at auditions is too!
So what does a Freshers audition involve you may ask? Our auditions are low pressure and designed to be fun, you’re not expected to do any preparation for them! You will either have to play some drama games or read a scene or two from the script! Shows will usually create their own instagram accounts with audition information and sign up forms, and these will be added to this website page as well closer to Freshers week!
Auditions will take place during Freshers week. See below for our audition schedule and information on all the shows you can audition for!
Schedule of shows auditioning in the Players Theatre (first floor of Players Building to the left as you go up the stairs)

Ar Scáth a Chéile - Girlhood Lives On
An original play written and directed by Tara Dempsey and Cáitín Ní Shea
1pm Week 4 ( Tuesday October 1st to Saturday October 5th)

A group of friends gather for their annual powerpoint night and amidst the laughter, gossip and bonding, tensions simmer beneath the surface due to unexpected guests, societal meddling, and unconventional presentations. Will they succumb to their vulnerabilities or will they learn to lean on one another? Can ‘girls support girls’ when the whole world wants women to tear each other apart?
Note that this show involves a cúpla focail as Gaeilge ( a few lines of Irish) which have been spread throughout the script! But don’t worry if you’ve a low level of Irish or you’ve never spoken a word of it, as there are roles that speak no Irish at all so it’s the perfect chance to pick some up!

When Bad things happen to good actors
An established play written by Jason Pizzarello and Ian McWethy
Directed by Eimear Conroy and Amy Wyley
1pm Week 5 ( Monday 7th of October to Friday 11th of October)
Think off off off off OFF broadway, Think Glee kids but worse and with no singing (thankfully?), Think the Play that Goes Wrong but queer and BETTER!!! A one-act production of The Wizard of Oz gets derailed by missed cues, forgotten lines, and a renegade sound board op who refuses to play anything but dinosaur noises. A comedy that proves, when it comes to live theatre, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, and it will be hilarious.

The show will follow a group of ragtags as they journey through the magical world of theatre and Broadway and try to put a stop to some bad guys. Co-Op gives you the opportunity to be as silly as you could possibly want while helping to write the script through a series of games during rehearsals. With a huge cast and as much absurdity as you can handle, Freshers Co-Op 2024 promises to be as iconic as ever.
