Want to get involved in DU Players? There are so many ways to take part in our society!
Whether you're an avid theatre lover or you're just starting out, there's something for everyone with DU Players. See below for more information on the theatre programmes we run, our annual festivals, weekly events and more!
The first step to get involved in Players is to sign up to become a member! You can do so for only €3 by following the 'Sign Up' link at the top of this page. As a member, you will get discounted tickets to all shows and events. You can perform in shows, be a crew member and put up your very own productions in Players. You can also use our wonderful front of house space (we have a microwave, kettle, fridge and lots of comfy couches!) You will also receive an email every week letting you know everything that's going on in Players.
Wednesday Night Events
Every Wednesday during term time, Players host an event in our building! Each week we plan a different event, so there's something for everyone. Tickets are only €2 for members and €4 for non-members and include two free drinks. Past events have included Casino Night, Wednesday Night Live, dating show Couples of the Campanile, Craft nights and movie nights. We also often collab with other societies on campus, including The Trinitones, Film Soc, Vis Arts and Comedy Soc!
Auditions
Shows hold their own auditions at the start of every half semester! You can find audition schedules on our website or Instagram. Usually each show will create their own instagram account where they will post audition information, sides (what you will read during the audition) and sign up sheets. Freshers auditions take place during freshers week so be sure to visit our Freshers stall or website to find out more information and get auditioning!
PIPs
PIPs are Players Introductory Programmes! Held every semester, PIPs include six weeks of classes where you can get hands-on experience in an area of theatre you are interested in, no prior experience necessary. Choose between classes in acting, lighting, directing, writing, set, costume, publicity, producing and more. Classes are taught by members with lots of experience in these areas, and culminate in a showcase where you can put your new skills into practice. PIPs is a great way to make friends as PIPs mixers are often organised during the year to meet other members!
The PIPs sign up form will be posted soon! Check this page or our instagram for updates closer to Freshers week.
Subcommittees
You can get involved in Players and make lots of new friends by joining one of our sub-committees! As a sub-committee member, you get the chance to help a specific area of the committee run the society by helping set up for events and with any other tasks. We have four sub-committees: Sub-tech, Sub-Pubs, Sub-Design, and Sub-Ents. If you are interested in joining a sub-committee or want to find out more,
check out our sub-committee sign-up form:
Put up your own production
Before the start of each half semester members can submit shows to be put on in Players! A submission form will be sent out to our members where you can tell us your ideas for your show, whether it's something you have written yourself or an already established piece. You will have to assemble a crew, but if there's any roles you can't fill you can ask anyone on committee for help finding people for the job!
You will then be invited to a submission meeting where committee will ask you questions about your production. Afterwards, you will find out if it has been accepted. If it has, you will be given a show week and be able to hold auditions! Don't worry if you've never submitted a show before, you will be given lots of help from committee throughout the process!
If you have any questions about submitting a show, contact our Productions Officer at productions@duplayers.com.
Visit our Building
We have our own building on campus beside the Samuel Beckett Theatre! Just walk towards the Beckett and turn left. Look up to see a big arrow pointing towards our door! You can also find our exact location on the homepage of our website. Feel free to come up the stairs to Front of House at any time for a cosy place to have a cup of tea and a chat, or pop into our theatre for our 1pm and 7pm shows that take place every week.
Festivals
Throughout the year, Players hosts various week long theatre festivals! Members can submit shows to be put up during the week. Festival weeks are usually full of workshops, events and performances. Our festivals are often themed, such as Glitterfest which celebrates queer art, and Mná Fest celebrating work by female creatives. We also have Freshers Fest and Summerfest!
You can get involved by volunteering for our festivals!
Sign up forms will be posted around 2 weeks before festivals start.
Crew Roster
If you’d like to make yourself known as a potential crew member, the crew roster is the place to do it! It is a list of crew members and their experience, so whether you're fresh off the back of PIPs or a seasoned hack this is the place for you! We've made this list for directors and crew members alike, so if you're a director looking for crew or a crew member looking for a director we've got ya covered.
You can find the complete list of responses to this form in our weekly society email! Any questions contact Naomi (productions@duplayers.com) or Aodhán (programmes@duplayers.com)
